As The Dread attacks Earth, Destiny warns Superman that he is at a turning point. He can either allow The Dread to turn all humans into mind-controlled slaves or fight and ensure that a world of tragedy comes to pass. Superman chooses to fight, no matter what the consequences. In doing so, Superman proves that his is the universe the Monitor must focus on to preserve existence in the face of the coming of the Anti-Monitor.
