Darkseid attacks Earth and the heroes are defeated and Darkseid gains absolute power. However, the most powerful time-travelers come together as the Quantum Quorum and are able to roll back time 7 days to give the heroes a chance to defeat Darkseid. They learn that Darkseid has planted a source of Omega energy at the center of the Earth, and that if one of them can take control of that energy, they may be powerful enough to stop Darkseid. But to do so, they must have a tournament of heroes and villains to determine who will become their champion to use the Omega energy against Darkseid.
