DC Horror Presents: Soul Plumber #5

With the penultimate issue of this six-part DC Horror series arriving in 2022, Soul Plumber #5 sets an unsettling tone right from John McCrea's cover: a grotesque, grinning demon looms large over a chessboard, its clawed hands resting among human-scaled pieces while a glowing-eyed creature lurks in the shadowy background — the whole image reeking of infernal manipulation and high-stakes games. The chess motif is wickedly effective, suggesting that the forces at play here see humanity as little more than pawns to be moved and sacrificed. Writers Marcus Parks and Henry Zebrowski, alongside artist PJ Holden and colorist Mike Spicer, have crafted one of DC's more genuinely unsettling horror offerings, and with only one issue left after this, the tension is clearly coming to a head.
