“Welcome to Luthorcon III!”

Eduardo Barreto's cover sets the tension perfectly: Superman and Superwoman strain against an enormous green machine, fists locked together in a struggle, while three bald-headed figures — each a variant of Lex Luthor — loom menacingly above them. This 1985 annual teams the Man of Steel with Superwoman against what appears to be a full roster of Luthor counterparts, and the title "Welcome to Luthorcon III!" promises something delightfully sinister. Writer Elliot S! Maggin and artist Eduardo Barreto make for a compelling combination on an oversized adventure that feels both grand and gleefully inventive.
