David and Goliath #1

From Image Comics in 2003, this opening issue pairs a red-haired boy — clinging wide-eyed to the back of a massive, snarling winged lion charging straight at the viewer — with a city street full of startled bystanders, a mustached gunman, and a well-dressed couple recoiling in alarm. The cover pencils by Leonel Castellani and inks by Daniel Griffo give the whole scene a kinetic, animated energy that makes it impossible not to pick up. Writer Jay Ju and artist Leonel Castellani clearly have a big, rollicking adventure in store for anyone willing to climb aboard.
