“F.O.W.L. Disposition, Part Four”

The terror creeping in from the right side of this cover — a mass of dark, glowing-eyed shadows — makes it clear that the four-part "F.O.W.L. Disposition" storyline is building to something big. A duck family huddles together on what looks like a TV studio set, complete with stage lighting and a rooster manning the broadcast booth beneath a glowing "LAUGH" sign, while the ominous shadowy threat closes in from the edges. James Silvani's artwork balances the warm, sitcom-style staging against genuine menace with real wit, and Ian Brill's ongoing run for kaboom! in 2011 kept Darkwing Duck fans coming back month after month for exactly this kind of fun-meets-foreboding energy.
