Darkhawk #5

Darkhawk faces a stunning mystery in issue #5 — the cover by Mike Manley throws readers right into a clash between the dark-armored Darkhawk and a golden-armored figure who appears to be wearing a strikingly similar suit, with the cover copy pointedly asking "Who is Portal?" and "Why is he wearing Darkhawk's armor?" The two armored combatants collide in a burst of energy and motion, claws and weaponry extended, against a swirling pink-and-purple backdrop that gives the whole scene a genuinely unsettling otherworldly charge. With Danny Fingeroth writing and Manley also handling the interior art, this 1991 Marvel series was already building an intriguing mythology around its hero just five issues in.
