“Heart of the Hawk, Part 6: The Return”

Part six of the "Heart of the Hawk" saga puts Darkhawk in serious trouble, as the cover — penciled and inked by Mike Manley — thrusts the hero directly into the crushing grip of the alabaster-skinned Tombstone, whose skeletal face looms menacingly amid swirling bursts of vivid pink energy. The tagline "Into the Hands of… Tombstone!" says it all: this is a confrontation that looks as dangerous as it gets, with Darkhawk's dark-gauntleted hand straining against the villain's iron hold. A small inset of Darkhawk in full flight graces the upper corner, a reminder of the hero's aerial prowess — though on this cover, at least, the odds look very much in Tombstone's favor.

Darkhawk hijacks a plane back to New York and attacks Tombstone at the salon of Madame Rose. Darkhawk wins the fight and gets the amulet back but is unable to change back to Chris Powell. He then finds out from Harry Lennox where Grace Powell is being held and rescues her just as she manages to get partially free herself. Darkhawk reads more of Mike Powell's diary and finds out that Mike and other Cabal members took turns being Savage Steel, but that Mike and Harry were opposed to killing criminals. Thinking about his father, Darkhawk changes back into Chris Powell.
