Dark Reign: Hawkeye #4
The penultimate chapter of this 2009 Dark Reign limited series delivers a striking cover by Clint Langley: a purple-costumed Hawkeye strides forward with a drawn bow amid a storm of fire and smoke, while a massive, glowering skull looms behind him — its hollow eyes burning with orange flame. It's a tense, atmospheric image that captures the Dark Reign era's mood of danger and moral ambiguity perfectly, with writer Andy Diggle and artist Tom Raney steering the series toward its conclusion.

Hawkeye faces an army of Bullseyes and takes them all out except for the last one, the merc known as Solo. Solo captures Hawkeye and brings him to face the mysterious Kingmaker, Hawkeye's father (whom he left to face a fiery death during their last encounter). Kingmaker prepares to trade his old burned husk of a body for his son's by placing his brain in Lester's body. Unfortunately, no one told him that Hawkeye's bones are laced with adamantium which, not only is impossible to cut, but also blocks Kingmaker's neural inhibitor.
