About this Issue

As the concluding chapter of Erica Schultz's four-issue miniseries, this issue brings together two of Marvel's most distinct 'legacy mantle' holders — Elektra Natchios as Daredevil and Joe Garrison as the new Punisher — in an uneasy alliance against Maggia power brokers Count Nefaria and Silvermane. It stands as a significant moment in the sustained editorial project, begun under Chip Zdarsky, of repositioning Elektra as a full co-bearer of the Daredevil identity rather than a supporting character. The issue also marks one of Joe Garrison's most prominent crossover appearances outside his own series, helping cement the new Punisher as a fixture of the broader street-level Marvel Universe. Its 'enemy mine' resolution — two lethal, morally complex vigilantes forced to cooperate — distills the central tension of Schultz's run: Elektra's vow of nonlethality tested to breaking point against a partner defined entirely by lethal force.

History

The 2024 *Daredevil: Woman Without Fear* miniseries was announced in April 2024, spinning directly out of Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder's ongoing *Daredevil* run — specifically the events of *Daredevil* #11. Writer Erica Schultz returned to Elektra following her prior work on *Daredevil: Gang War*, and was reunited with her *Hallows' Eve* collaborator Michael Dowling on interior art; Ivan Fiorelli also contributed pencils and inks to the later issues including #4. Editor Devin Lewis oversaw the series, with David Yardin providing cover art across the run's final issues.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Issue #4 (of 4) was released October 16, 2024, written by Erica Schultz with interior art by Michael Dowling and Ivan Fiorelli, colors by Dee Cunniffe, letters by Clayton Cowles, and a cover by David Yardin with colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr.
  • The issue is the finale of a four-issue limited series — the second 'Woman Without Fear' miniseries — spinning out of Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder's *Daredevil* (2023) ongoing, specifically after *Daredevil* #11.
  • The central conflict pits Elektra Natchios as Daredevil against Joe Garrison (the new Punisher), with their fight ultimately giving way to a forced alliance when Count Nefaria and Silvermane target them both.
  • Joe Garrison, the new Punisher, is a former S.H.I.E.L.D. black-ops agent whose first appearance was in *Punisher* #1 (2023) by David Pepose and Dave Wachter; this miniseries represents one of his most prominent crossover appearances.
  • Elektra's vow of nonlethality — a cornerstone of her characterization since Chip Zdarsky's run — is a recurring source of dramatic tension throughout the issue, particularly given her partnership with the overtly lethal Garrison.
  • Count Nefaria (Luchino Nefaria) and Silvermane (Silvio Manfredi) serve as the Maggia antagonists for the arc; their attempt to kill both Elektra and Joe Garrison drives the issue's climax.
  • A Paulo Siqueira variant cover was also released alongside the standard David Yardin cover on the same date.
  • The entire four-issue run was subsequently collected in the trade paperback *Daredevil: Woman Without Fear — Bloody Reunion* (ISBN 9781302959180), which also includes bonus material from *Daredevil* (2023) #8.
