The series grew directly out of writer Erica Schultz's earlier Daredevil work — specifically *Daredevil: Woman Without Fear* — giving her a sustained runway to develop Elektra-as-Daredevil under the newly established Marvel Red Band imprint, a mature-readers publishing initiative that poly-bagged issues with a parental advisory label. Schultz was joined by artist Valentina Pinti (previously on *Blade* and *Immortal Thor*) and penciller Jose Luis Soares; the split art duties across the series' five issues reflected the production realities of the accelerated Red Band release schedule. Editor Lauren Amaro shepherded the project, which Marvel positioned as a spiritual sequel to Charles Soule and Ron Garney's original Muse introduction in *Daredevil* vol. 5 (2016).
