About this Issue

Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #2 advances the first extended confrontation between Elektra Natchios's Daredevil and Muse — a clash that had never occurred before this miniseries, given that the original Dark Art arc pitted Muse against Matt Murdock's Daredevil. The issue deepens the series-wide introduction of Morgan Whittier as the second Muse, a character created by Erica Schultz and Valentina Pinti in issue #1 and now shown actively stalking Hell's Kitchen, blurring the boundary between the spirit of the original villain and his new, living host. Publishing under Marvel's Red Band imprint — a mature-readers format only inaugurated with Blood Hunt in 2024 — the series as a whole represents a meaningful creative expansion of what violence and psychological horror Daredevil stories are allowed to depict at the newsstand level, and this second chapter is where that tonal commitment becomes unambiguous as Elektra hunts alone, estranged from Matt Murdock, through a city filled with grisly tableaus.

History

Writer Erica Schultz had been developing Elektra-centric story material across multiple earlier assignments — including Daredevil: Gang War and Daredevil: Woman Without Fear — when Marvel editorial approached her specifically to produce a Red Band title. In a 2025 podcast interview, Schultz described being given the Red Band brief and then drawing on Elektra story ideas she had been circulating in editorial for some time, resulting in this five-issue limited series. Artist Valentina Pinti, whose previous Marvel credits included Blade and Immortal Thor, served as the primary visual architect of the series alongside penciller Jose Luis (with inking contributions from Valentina Pinti and Jonas Trindade, colors by Dee Cunniffe, and lettering for issue #2 specifically by VC's Clayton Cowles), with Paulo Siqueira providing covers throughout. Editor Lauren Amaro shepherded the book under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Released February 19, 2025 (cover-dated April 2025), the second issue in a five-issue limited series.
  • Written by Erica Schultz; interior art by Jose Luis and Valentina Pinti (pencils/inks), colors by Dee Cunniffe, letters by VC's Clayton Cowles; cover by Paulo Siqueira with colors by Rachelle Rosenberg.
  • Morgan Whittier — the second Muse, whose first appearance was in issue #1 of this series — appears here as the active antagonist, manipulated by the spirit of the deceased original Muse (an Inhuman serial-killer villain first created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney in Daredevil vol. 5 #11, 2016).
  • The Marvel Database (Fandom) records two minor first appearances within this issue: NYPD Officer Flaherty and a character named Petra (who dies in the same issue).
  • Elektra Natchios appears as the featured Daredevil — estranged from Matt Murdock — while Matt Murdock and Cole North appear in supporting roles; the original Muse appears in spirit/ghost form.
  • Published as part of Marvel's Red Band imprint: polybagged, carrying a Parental Advisory (15+) label, and sold exclusively in print (not available digitally on Marvel Unlimited at launch), following the format inaugurated by Blood Hunt Red Band in 2024.
  • The series is part of Erica Schultz's sustained run on Elektra/Daredevil material and thematically engages with questions of art, violence, and moral restraint — Elektra having promised Matt Murdock she would not kill while wearing the Daredevil costume.
  • The Morgan Whittier version of Muse later received a live-action adaptation pathway: Margarita Levieva was cast to portray a Lady Muse character (based on the Morgan Whittier template) in the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
