Daredevil #2 (689)
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeDaredevil #2 (Vol. 9, legacy #689) is the second chapter of Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett's 2026 relaunch, a run that repositions Matt Murdock in a genuinely novel civilian role — adjunct law professor — while returning the title to the street-level noir sensibility that defined its greatest eras. The issue is the first in the Phillips–Garbett run to reintroduce Leland Owlsley / the Owl alongside a visual redesign, and it plants the seed for the Daredevil–Spider-Man team-up that follows in issue #3, demonstrating the new team's ambition to weave classic Marvel relationships back into Hell's Kitchen. Arriving while Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was airing on Disney+, the issue is part of a deliberate publishing strategy to give the character a strong comics presence during a moment of unusually high mainstream visibility. Phillips is only the second woman to helm a sustained Daredevil run, following Ann Nocenti's tenure in the late 1980s and early '90s.

The series was announced in November 2025 and launched April 1, 2026 as Daredevil Vol. 9, relaunching from the end of Vol. 8 at issue #25. Phillips and Garbett came onto the book as a pre-formed team — they had discussed collaborating over dinner long before the assignment materialized — and Marvel greenlit them together rather than pairing a writer with a separate editorial choice of artist. Phillips drew directly on her own academic background as a former university professor when pitching Matt Murdock's new role as a law teacher, and Garbett designed the villain Omen's hooked staff weapon based on the Roman augur's lituus to reinforce that character's prophetic identity. Colorist Frank Martin, known for Absolute Batman, and letterer VC's Ariana Maher round out the core creative unit, with Edward Devin Lewis as editor.
