Danger and Adventure #23

This Charlton anthology from 1955 features Ibis the Invincible squaring off against "The Viking Horde" — and the cover, pencilled by Kurt Schaffenberger and Louis Cazeneuve and inked by Cazeneuve, delivers the chaos in full: a silver-haired figure in a blue suit confronts a swarm of sword-and-axe-wielding Vikings aboard a storm-tossed longship, its fearsome dragon-headed prow looming overhead while lightning crackles through the rigging. A bald villain in purple lurks on the left, weapon in hand, adding another layer of menace to an already packed scene. It's a wonderfully energetic snapshot of mid-1950s adventure comics at their most entertaining.
