The remaining visible pages show an adventure involving a jet, Paris, and a character named Mel pursuing or protecting someone, with references to the Curiba and mysterious circumstances involving voodoo drums and secret messages.
Virgil Stagg escorts a physicist carrying vital hydrogen bomb formulas out of London, but when assassins strike at the consulate steps, the spy must fight his way to the airport and onto a transatlantic flight—all while the enemy closes in. Racing against time and a relentless fifth column, Stagg discovers that survival itself may be only half the battle.
A government spy spirited out of a Red Czech prison by the underground, Mel Oliver is flown to Vienna and then to Paris—where he hopes to reunite with his wife Marie. But when Douglas and Mel reach her hideout on Rue Croix, they walk into a trap set by a Communist operative, and the reunion they've anticipated takes a devastating turn. Douglas must work fast to protect Oliver and uncover the truth about Marie's loyalty before the Red police close in.
A steward named Stark boards a passenger ship carrying three million dollars in gold bound for New York, but a suspicious collection of tourists—including the dangerous Daviga and his gang—are plotting to steal the cargo and silence everyone aboard with a hidden bomb. When Stark discovers the criminals' plan to escape with the gold, he must think fast to turn their own time-bomb trap against them before it's too late.
