A submarine crew prepares for a critical diving operation under the command of Lieutenant Harvey, who has recently been assigned and is eager to prove himself through dangerous testing procedures. Test pilot Jack Cornell recounts his first assignment conferring with Chief Engineer Milton Redfan about developing a new interceptor aircraft, during which Redfan reveals his attachment to the project by noting how he has watched the aircraft's development from conception through assembly.
A nitro-glycerine truck driver named Steve Winters and his co-driver Pop Taylor face a perilous race against a ruthless rival outfit to deliver their explosive cargo to an army plant—but sabotage lurks in the shadows, and one wrong move could spell disaster for everyone on the road. With a government contract and a fallen colleague's legacy on the line, Steve must navigate hairpin turns, mechanical failures, and cutthroat competition while keeping a cargo of high explosives stable enough to survive the journey.
In "Deep Death," the U.S. Navy launches a high-stakes mission to rescue the newly commissioned submarine Seasurf after it plunges to the ocean floor during its first voyage. With time running out and the pressure of the deep closing in, the fate of the crew hangs on a desperate effort to reach them before it's too late.
Test pilot Jack Cornell takes the contract to evaluate a new jet interceptor, but his instincts tell him something's dangerously wrong with the wing construction—a concern the designer, Redfan, refuses to address. When Cornell's suspicions and a deadly previous test flight push him to take drastic action, he uncovers a sabotage plot that reaches far deeper than faulty engineering.
