“Fragments, Part One: Boom Baby”

This December 1994 DC title kicks off the five-part "Fragments" saga with a cover that frames Damage and a second figure — both trapped within a glowing, puzzle-piece-shaped portal — while a white-haired, square-jawed man looms in the foreground corner, hinting at the Iron Munro backup also promised on the cover. The puzzle-piece motif is a clever visual metaphor for a story arc built around fragments, and the swirling energy surrounding the two central figures gives the whole image a charged, kinetic energy. With interior work from writer Tom Joyner and artist Jason Armstrong and cover art by Bill Marimon and Tom McWeeney, this is a satisfying entry point into one of DC's mid-'90s action titles.
