“Rendezvous!”

"Rendezvous!" is a gripping tale from Crime SuspenStories #16 (1953), written by Al Feldstein, where a quiet life in Tranquility is upended by the arrival of a mysterious stranger on a white horse. As the town’s longtime mayor and blacksmith, John Whitman, repairs a gun with silver scorpion engravings, he realizes too late that he’s just armed the legendary outlaw known as The Scorpion. The story’s tension builds from a single, fateful repair—Johnny Craig’s striking cover, with its stark contrast of black and white, perfectly captures the moment’s ominous weight.
