The Con and the Canary!
5 pp · Crime

Officer Mike Willis thought he'd put criminal Bart Kiley behind bars for good four years ago, but fate has other plans when the two cross paths again on Willis's beat—and Kiley wastes no time reminding the cop of an old grudge. As Kiley slips back into his criminal ways, Willis and the department work to build a case against the elusive hood, who always seems to have an alibi for his crimes, no matter how guilty he clearly is. Will Willis finally catch Kiley red-handed, or will the con man slip through the law's fingers once more?

The Devil Is Patient
5 pp · Crime

A young career criminal learns the hard way that each return to prison comes with a harsher sentence, and Warden Peters watches helplessly as Tod Comack cycles through crime and captivity, seemingly determined to eventually forfeit his freedom for life. With each fresh start outside the walls, Comack gravitates back toward the underworld—and back toward the cells—until the arithmetic of his convictions catches up with him. A grim study of how some men never learn, even when the lesson is spelled out in years behind bars.

The Clue on the Beach
3 pp · Crime

A man drowns in a small seaside town, but a telltale bump on his head suggests foul play—and suspicion quickly falls on a local man with motive and opportunity. When a detective investigates the circumstances surrounding the death, he must separate fact from accusation to uncover the truth behind what really happened that morning on the beach.

The Bitter Career of the Candy Man
7 pp · Crime

A series of carefully planned robberies—complete with love notes signed "The Candy Man"—takes a dark turn when the thief turns killer during a holdup, forcing detectives Kennedy and Fisher to hunt him down through methodical detective work. Using a discarded note and the gun used in the murder, the police track their man from a pawnshop to a string of small restaurants, eventually identifying him as Dick Corwin, a smooth-talking drifter with a dangerous ego. As the net tightens and Corwin strikes again, the case builds to a desperate climax on the open road.
