The story follows a team of reanimated monsters—including a vampire, a werewolf, and a gorgon—as they undertake covert missions for the U.S. government, blending war comics with supernatural elements. Written by Jeff Lemire and illustrated by various artists, this volume offers a gritty, standalone take on the team's origins and their struggle for humanity amidst their monstrous nature.

In "The Creature Commandos!", General Paul Levitz sentences G.I. Robot and the Creature Commandos to death—only for the verdict to be commuted, sending them on a perilous mission into space. But when their rockets malfunction, the team hurtles toward an unknown destination, leaving their fate uncertain. Written by Robert Kanigher and illustrated by Fred Carrillo, with colors by Jerry Serpe and letters by Milt Snapinn, the issue features a striking cover by Joe Kubert.
