“What Price Paradise?”

With the ominous one-word tagline "Massacre!" blazing across the bottom, this January 2008 installment of Countdown to Final Crisis pulls no punches in its cover imagery — a blue-armored figure stands triumphant atop a massive fallen Superman shield while chaos erupts around him, aerial craft swarming a smoke-filled sky in the background. Below, a Superman-emblazoned villain and a large red-eyed bruiser clash violently in the foreground, with a green figure visible amid the wreckage, conveying a multiverse in full meltdown. Pete Woods both pencils and inks the cover, delivering a kinetic, crowded battlefield that makes "What Price Paradise?" feel like a very loaded question indeed.
