Corto Maltese #8
In "The Lodge of Hermes," Hugo Pratt delivers another masterful chapter of Corto Maltese’s journey through the shadowed alleys of 1930s Venice. After crashing through the roof of a masonic lodge, Corto teams up with freemason Bepi Faliero, chasing whispers of an emerald known as "Solomon's Clavicle" amid a city teeming with secrets. As fascist Blackshirts close in and a figure inspired by Gabriele D'Annunzio emerges from the fog, Corto is drawn into a deeper mystery—led by the enigmatic Neoplatonic philosopher Hipazia. The story unfolds in Pratt’s signature blend of historical intrigue and poetic atmosphere, with every page rendered in his distinctive, expressive style. Cover by Hugo Pratt.
