“Blood Dawn”

Conan stands his ground against a horde of pale, fanged creatures draped in tattered red robes, driving his sword into one that has lunged at him while others close in from every side beneath a pale full moon — it's a cover that makes the title "Blood Dawn" feel entirely earned. John Buscema's self-inked pencils give the scene a raw, muscular energy, capturing both the Cimmerian's defiance and the genuinely unsettling menace of his undead-looking assailants. Issue #183 arrives as part of Marvel's 1986 25th Anniversary celebration, and this moody, creature-filled entry shows the long-running series still swinging hard.
