Conan Saga #39

This June 1990 Marvel black-and-white magazine presents Part 2 of 4 of "The Long Night of Fang and Talon," and the Ernie Chan cover makes an immediate impression: a muscular Conan braces himself against a ruined stone tower, thrusting a spear at a massive, snarling serpent that rears up on his left while more fanged creatures writhe at his feet. High above on the battlements, a woman reaches out desperately as pterodactyl-like creatures circle a blood-red sky. Chan's painterly rendering gives the whole scene a rich, brooding atmosphere that captures the Hyborian Age at its most savage and atmospheric.
