In "The Lurker Within!", Conan is hired by Lady Aztrias of Numalia to steal a mysterious bowl from the wealthy merchant Kallian—only to find the man dead and the bowl empty. When the city guard arrives and accuses Conan of murder, he must fight off a monstrous serpent-man that emerged from the bowl, saving the merchant’s son Demetrio in the process. A vision of the sorcerer Thoth-Amon flashes before Conan’s eyes, hinting at a deeper, darker conspiracy.

In "The Keepers of the Crypt," Conan stumbles upon the ruined city of Lanjau, where he battles a monstrous lizard before teaming up with a nameless mercenary to claim its lost treasure. As they face the undead guardians of the crypt—defeated only by sunlight—an earthquake seals the city beneath the earth, burying the mercenary and the treasure forever. Now alone, Conan arrives in a nearby village and finds himself reunited with Jenna, only to flee with her on horseback when soldiers arrive to arrest him.

In "The Garden of Fear," Conan and Jo find themselves in the shadow of a mountain tribe’s village when Jo is snatched by a winged creature—last of a forgotten race—dragged to a tower guarded by deadly, blooming flora. With the help of a herd of ancient mammoths, Conan climbs the tower’s impossible height, facing both the creature and the garden’s ravenous beauty in a desperate bid to bring Jo home.
