Conan är legosoldat åt kung Maklos av Turbin-D'Qhat. Kungen känner sig dock hotad av Conan och gör ett misslyckat försök att döda Conan och alla legosoldater. De flyr och inleder ett uppror mot kung Maklos. Under tiden smider alkemisten Gabrelle Pok egna ränker för att vinna halva kungariket. I sin källare har han sytt ihop ett monster av likdelar och återuppväckt det. Dessutom har han lejt danserskan Trelinka att förföra Conan och att droga honom så att hans män tror att han blivit tokig. Men Conan har sett igenom ränkerna, gör en oväntad attack och intar staden. Kungen dödas av monstret.
