Now a chieftain, she leads her people as sea raiders, driven by a quest for vengeance and a forgotten crown. N'yaga berättar för Conan att Bêlit är den rättmätiga arvtagaren till tronen i Asaglun. När hon var liten genomförde hennes farbror Nim-Karrak en stadskupp och mördade hennes far kungen. N’yaga räddade hennes liv och tog med henne till sin stam där han spred en legend om att Bêlit var dödsgudinnan Derketas dotter. Bêlit växte upp till at bli stammens bästa krigare. Hövding Uzumi skickade ut henne på ett omöjligt uppdrag för att återta ett heligt föremål från grav-folket, men slutade själv som död. Bêlit blev ny hövding och lät hela stammen bli sjörövare för att skaffa pengar till hämnd.
