In "Fjellørnens vei," Conan leads his pirates in a relentless pursuit of the Turanian general Artaban, a man who showed no mercy to their fallen comrades. As Artaban rescues the slave girl Roxana from Hyrkanian raiders, she persuades him to also save the imprisoned Prince Teyaspa of Turan, setting a dangerous course for the fortress of Gleg the Zaporoskan. With help from Vinashko, a former Yuetshi chief, Conan discovers a hidden path into the castle, where he confronts Artaban in a final, bloody clash. But the aftermath brings tragedy, as Roxana, broken by fate, takes the life of Teyaspa and then herself. Left alone and pursued by horrors beyond the mortal realm, Conan flees—only to find his crew has vanished.
