“On Active Service”

In "On Active Service," veteran servant Henry Bloome leaves centuries of family tradition behind to join the army at the start of the Second World War, determined to prove himself on active service. Now an officer, he's stunned to find his new servant is someone he never expected—someone whose past is tied to the very family he once served. Jeff Bevan’s striking cover captures the tension of this unexpected reunion, while the story unfolds with quiet intensity, rooted in duty, legacy, and the unforeseen turns of war.

When the Second World War started, Henry Bloome quit his job as a servant with the Rockliffe family, breaking a tradition that went back hundreds of years. He joined the army, eager to be on active service, determined to do well. He didn't think he'd end up an officer though, with a servant of his own. And he certainly never dreamed who that servant was going to be!
