“The Black Pearls of Langeen”

In "The Black Pearls of Langeen," a secret committee at the Atomic Institute debates harnessing atomic energy for good—just as Mr. Twist and his henchmen zero in on their weakest link. When Barry Dale is kidnapped and discovers he’s become radioactive, he takes on the mantle of Atoman to fight back. Written by Ken Crossen and illustrated by Jerry Robinson, with inks by Mort Meskin and George Roussos and letters by Rhoda Lewis, this 1985 tale blends Cold War-era science fiction with a hero born from radiation.
