Cold Spots #3

Cullen Bunn and Mark Torres's supernatural series continues with a cover that is genuinely unsettling in the best way — a massive, gnarled tree dominates the image, its bark twisted into what appears to be a snarling, hollow-eyed skull face rendered in deep crimson and shadow. The stark, near-monochromatic palette of blacks, browns, and bleeding reds gives the whole piece a wintry, desolate atmosphere that feels perfectly matched to the series' title. If this third issue keeps delivering dread as effectively as Torres's cover art suggests, Cold Spots is shaping up to be one of Image's more atmospheric horror offerings of 2018.
