Challengers of the Unknown #70
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeNeal Adams delivers a gripping cover for this November 1969 entry in DC's long-running adventure series — a massive, looming green creature fills the background as three Challengers in their striking purple-and-yellow costumes struggle in the foreground, one collapsed and unconscious while a red-haired woman stands her ground defiantly. The cover copy cuts right to the tension: a speech bubble accuses betrayal ("Your father killed Prof, and now you're gonna finish us!"), while the bold tagline questions whether the Challs' new costumes were "designed by friend or foe — for death or for life?" Written by Denny O'Neil with interior art by Jack Sparling, "A Scream of Yesterdays!" promises exactly the kind of high-stakes mystery that made Challengers of the Unknown such a compelling corner of the DC universe in 1969.

Corinna Stark replaces the wounded Prof and provides the team with new winter-weight uniforms. They need a doctor for Prof But a thunderstorm has washed out the bridge: they’re trapped on the mountain. At the castle, Algernon Stark revives and in the ensuing battle he and Prof are separated from the team and encounter cultists who worship a hooded figure, Chu, who kills Algernon. The Challs join Prof and all but Red are captured by the cultists, as Chu explains he is an alien who enslaved the locals. Chu escapes the Challs but Prof is missing.
