Challengers of the Unknown #27 is a fine example of DC's early-'60s adventure comics at their most imaginative, with Arnold Drake's storytelling talent behind the story titled "The 1,001 Impossible Inventions.

Two small-time criminals steal the models of futuristic weapons and the Challengers are amazed when the crooks are able to use the weapons in a crime spree, when the devices shouldn't operate at all. They eventually learn that the crooks have befriended a space alien who used his technology to render the weapons operable. and have to find a way out of the dilemma.
