Casper the Friendly Ghost #42

Harvey Comics' lovable little spook is up to his usual friendly mischief on this bright 1956 cover, where Casper has apparently startled a well-dressed bear so thoroughly that the poor fellow is recoiling right out of a television set in wide-eyed, open-mouthed shock. It's a wonderfully absurd image — a ghost saying hello to someone on TV and getting pure panic in return — that captures everything charming about Casper's eternally optimistic attempts at friendship. At a dime a copy, this issue with the story "Growing Up" delivers exactly the warm, lighthearted fun Harvey Comics fans adored.
