Casper the Friendly Ghost #28

Harvey Comics' January 1955 entry in this long-running series finds Casper bundled up in red earmuffs and a polka-dot scarf, reaching out a gentle hand toward a snarling, flame-shaped spirit that has risen from a small campfire in the snow. The contrast between Casper's wide-eyed curiosity and the fiery creature's menacing claws makes for a wonderfully charming cover that captures everything endearing about the Friendly Ghost — he'd rather make a new pal than run away. At a dime a copy, this was pure wholesome fun for young readers in 1955.
