Carnage #12
This 2016 chapter of "What Dwells Beneath" sets an unsettling, atmospheric tone right from Michael Walsh's striking cover: three small human silhouettes armed with weapons stand dwarfed before a towering, nightmarish symbiote form that erupts from a tangle of dark tendrils, its massive shadowed bulk rendered in deep crimsons and purples. The sense of scale alone is genuinely chilling — those figures look perilously outmatched. With Gerry Conway writing and Mike Perkins on art and inks, colored by Andy Troy, issue #12 promises the kind of moody, horror-inflected storytelling that makes this series such a rewarding read.
