Captain Midnight #6
From 1943, this Fawcett wartime adventure puts Captain Midnight front and center in his distinctive red flight suit, manning a massive anti-aircraft gun as enemy parachutists descend and warplanes streak across a stormy sky. The cover's bold banner — "Capt. Midnight — Radio and Movie Star — Blasts the Black Mikado" — captures the cross-media excitement surrounding the character at the height of his popularity, while inset panels tease confrontations involving a blackout bomb and a soldier declaring "Yi! It's Captain Midnight!" Ten cents bought a lot of thrills in 1943, and "Captain Midnight and the Panama Plot!" looks every bit as action-packed as that price tag promised.
