When Pete crashes again during a subsequent flight, Captain Midnight initially suspects sabotage but discovers the propeller was undamaged. The issue also includes a "Pilot Pete" instructional feature on airplane safety, a sports quiz, and an advertisement for "The Adventures of Sam Spade" radio program in which a detective uses a cream-oil clue to identify a murderer by finding a well-groomed suspect with dandruff on his collar.
Captain Albright arrives in Washington to demonstrate a new invention and testify before Congress—a decision that leads to his nomination as Assistant Secretary for Air. But when his office is burglarized and classified defense plans go missing, a shadowy conspiracy frames him as a traitor, and the trusted inventor finds himself arrested and branded a spy. Captain Midnight must uncover who orchestrated this setup and clear his name before the real culprits slip away.
Pilot Pete gets a stern lecture about his habit of damaging planes and is told to salvage what he can when accidents happen—but when his next crash leaves him with only an undamaged propeller to show for it, he figures that's exactly what his captain wanted to hear.
Captain Midnight and his companion follow a cryptic message left by a murdered art expert through the Swiss Alps to track down the treacherous Baron von Hogg, who's stolen a cache of Nazi-looted masterpieces and fled to a hidden chateau in Appenheim. What begins as a winter tourist cover story turns into a treacherous mountain climb, where the guide they've hired may not be who he claims to be. Captain Midnight must use all his skills and gadgetry to navigate deadly alpine perils and stay one step ahead of his quarry.
Pilot Pete pushes an old plane to its limits in a reckless speed run, only to lose control and discover the hard way that flying like lightning comes with some shocking consequences. It's a lighthearted cautionary tale about knowing when to throttle back.
When Peewee Pete arrives home after school to grab his baseball glove before a big game, he discovers his mother never left the house key in the mailbox—but instead of waiting to ask why, he launches into an increasingly chaotic series of attempts to break in. Through a mailbox mishap, a rain-pipe climb, and a chimney squeeze, Pete learns a hard lesson about thinking before acting.
Captain Midnight rushes to Arabia to rescue his friend Jim Trask, who's been imprisoned by the Shah after attempting to string telephone wire across land the local ruler now views as defiled by modern invention—all while a conniving advisor schemes to exploit the region's oil rights. Teaming up with Trask, Captain Midnight must fight their way out of the palace dungeons, protect the supply depot from a coordinated assault, and find a way to complete the telephone line before the construction deadline slips away.
