From Fawcett's long-running series, this May 1951 issue of Captain Marvel Adventures features a wonderfully playful cover by C. C. Beck — the World's Mightiest Mortal stands in his red-and-gold costume on a grassy hillside, cupping his hand to his ear as the words "Helloooo, Captain Marvel! Can You Hear Me?" arc across the sky toward him, while a tiny distant figure calls out from the horizon with a city skyline behind them. The story billed on the cover, "Captain Marvel and The Voice Heard Round the World," promises something delightfully unusual even by this title's imaginative standards. A charming snapshot of Golden Age fun at its most exuberant.
