The 2012 Captain Marvel series was launched by Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Dexter Soy as part of Marvel NOW!, with editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker shepherding Carol Danvers into the Captain Marvel mantle full-time for the first time. By issue #16, the regular art team had transitioned to Patrick Olliffe for the 'Infinity' tie-in two-parter, a common practice when shipping deadlines tightened around line-wide events. Co-writer Jen Van Meter joined DeConnick specifically for this tie-in arc. The issue was later absorbed into complete-collection reprints such as the Kelly Sue DeConnick Omnibus and 'Captain Marvel: Earth's Mightiest Hero Vol. 2,' correcting its initial omission from the standard trade paperback run.
