Captain Marvel #11
The bold title "Rebirth!" sets an appropriately dramatic tone for this March 1969 Marvel issue, and the cover by Barry Windsor-Smith and Herb Trimpe delivers an equally charged scene: Captain Marvel in his green-and-white Kree uniform rockets upward toward a massive spacecraft erupting in a burst of explosive energy, while a towering pink alien creature looms in the background and a small figure lies prone on the ground below. It's a wonderfully kinetic composition that packs cosmic-scale conflict into a single image, perfectly capturing the far-out science-fiction spirit Marvel was embracing at the end of the 1960s. Arnold Drake scripts, with interior art from Dick Ayers and Vince Colletta bringing the story to life inside.
