Captain Battle encounters a Japanese fishing boat while on a launch, then dives to investigate a suspicious vessel, discovering a passage into its hold where he finds evidence of sabotage. Ashore in Chicago, Thompson thwarts an assassination attempt on Major Davis by intercepting a call to the League of Assassins; during a subsequent car chase, Captain Battle uses incendiary bullets to neutralize pursuing vehicles. In a separate storyline, detective Eduardo Donati records a confession from Tony Caretti implicating him in the murder of Joe Dopey Brody, which leads to Donati's arrest and eventual vindication when Detective Phil Barrows locates Donati in magistrate's court.
