Candy arrives early to meet Ted Dawson at a new girl's house and becomes acquainted with him before the other guests arrive. The two go on a bug-hunting expedition where they attempt to catch a rare butterfly, leading to comedic mishaps involving a net and encounters with an adult reading a book. In a separate story titled "The Fourth Estate," Candy is made editor of the school paper while Gabby has just been given an executive position with the Centerville Courier, and the two compete over whose job is more impressive, with Gabby attempting to impress Candy by taking her to an upscale restaurant for dinner.
