The main story follows Candy as she becomes entangled in a scheme involving a wealthy older man and a scheming woman named Mrs. Mahoulahan. After Candy is thrown into the street by the woman, she encounters a con artist posing as a wealthy investor who tries to manipulate her into signing checks. The story escalates when Candy's attempts to help her father, who is suffering from a terrible headache, inadvertently lead to comedic chaos involving soothing music and a phonograph, resulting in the father being put to sleep by the confounded noise rather than relaxed as intended.
