Candy #12

The cover of Candy #12 tells the whole joke at a glance: "America's Favorite Teen-Ager" sits primly on the sofa lamenting that nobody has asked her out all day — while right outside her door, warning signs announce she has the measles, is contagious, and has chicken pox, courtesy of a mischievous younger boy gleefully nailing up another placard as a trio of baffled teenage boys peer over the fence. Harry Sahle's crisp, expressive linework gives the gag terrific comic timing, making Candy's oblivious confidence every bit as funny as the chaos surrounding her. A charming slice of 1949 teen humor that proves Quality Comics had a real knack for lighthearted, relatable comedy.
