The series was announced in September 2024, with writer David Pepose and artist Mike Henderson confirmed as the creative team; the book launched January 1, 2025, as part of Marvel's post-Krakoa 'X-Men: From the Ashes' publishing initiative, edited by Tom Brevoort. Pepose, a Ringo Award-winning writer whose prior Marvel work included Savage Avengers and Punisher, has spoken publicly about approaching Cable as 'Mad Max with a time machine' — a new-reader-friendly entry point designed to strip back the character's notoriously dense continuity and center a sci-fi love story. Henderson's interior work on the series marked his return to Marvel ongoing interiors for the first time since Dead Man Logan concluded in 2019. Cover duties throughout the run were handled by Ian Churchill, whose history drawing Cable in the 1990s gave the series an additional layer of generational continuity.
