Cable #49

Cable #49 brings part two of "The Hellfire Hunt" to Marvel's December 1997 lineup, and Ladrönn and Vlasco's cover sets a striking, ominous tone. Cable is shown face-down and struggling amid debris and bullet casings, his blue-and-gold armor battered and an X-Men shield emblem prominent on his shoulder — the tagline "And He Shall Know Death's Touch!" leaving little doubt that he's in serious trouble. It's a rare, gripping image of the usually indomitable soldier brought low, and James Robinson's story promises to test him further.
