Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch encounter the notorious Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, the toughest outlaws in the West who operate from a mountain fortress. The story follows Butch and Sundance as they join forces with this gang for a railroad express robbery, during which they successfully overpower the guards and steal bank notes. After the heist, the trio heads toward an engineers' camp in Superstition Canyon, where they discover a dead Mexican worker and an old miner's pick, leading them to suspect a hidden mine nearby. The narrative concludes with the capture and near-lynching of a dazed Flip Carson, whom the gang believes is Cactus Kent, a wanted outlaw.
