Buffalo Bill battles Native American forces led by Grey Wolf, who captures him and sentences him to death by torture in the forest while the tribe prepares for war. Buffalo Bill escapes by gnawing through the rope binding him to a tree, and subsequently becomes involved in stopping a train attack by the Comanches, where an "iron horse" locomotive plays a key role in the action. Buffalo Bill is then recruited by railroad officials to stop further attacks, and the story concludes with townspeople offering him the position of sheriff in Broken Wheel, which he accepts.
