A young woman named Candy meets Paul Calmer, a college football star and honor student, at a social gathering, but his parents disapprove of her due to class differences and push him toward a wealthier girl. After Paul leaves town, Candy encounters a lonely older man at a roadside diner who offers her shelter; she later discovers he is a wealthy widower seeking companionship.
